In September we had our first birthday. Our little event planning business 1, surviving 12 months of business is something we never thought possible. So here’s how our year has been!
Even though Amie has been in the industry of events for over 10 years running a business is never easy, no matter how smart you are. And when running your first business there’s a lot to learn.
Beginning as a sole trader Amie quickly realised this was the wrong decision for her and spent the first month restructuring to a company.
Beginning just before the summer/Christmas season meant that she had missed all the wedding bookings for the 2024 summer season. So instead secured some corporate work and concentrated on her website, business mentoring and social media.
In January, she hired a social media manager as this was taking the most time and Amie knew she needed to remain consistent – however after 6 weeks Amie realised she made this decision too early and the person she hired was not the right fit. Taking a step backwards and returning to doing it all herself.
Upon attending a few wedding expos in the first half of the year Amie began to expand her enquiries and bookings.
Securing 3 bookings in May to add to her existing 2 weddings, and all whilst travelling to facilitate corporate trade shows.
Come July and Amie had had 4 articles in major publications, a brand photoshoot, 3 partnership deals in the works, 2 additional articles in the works to be released end of the year and more partnership and collaborations being in the early stages.
August saw the first wedding for the 2025 season and as Amie continues to make her mark on the Melbourne and Victorian wedding scene she is about to welcome her first team member coming into 2025.
So many lessons come from the first 12 months in business but also so much to celebrate.
