Ever needed something elegant, classy or romantic but don’t want to splash out to privately rent a venue? Look no further then a Pop Up Picnic. A service that over the last 10 years has been the perfect excuse for an elegant seat in a part or a beach with a bottle of bubbles. But if you’ve ever seen one of these setups and thought how beautiful and nothing more you have to know they don’t just appear, there is a lot of work that go into them as you would know you can’t drive right up to where they are usually set.
We spoke with our friend Bettine Hartley from Mornington Peninsula Pop Ups on what it’s like to run a business that’s there celebrating all the “before” moments. The hens, the proposals, the engagements and more – the step before the wedding day itself!
Mornington Peninsula Pop Ups was started in 2020 but Bettine didn’t purchase it until 2024. With a healthy customer base and name already running Bettine’s vision was to continue to perfect an grow it. Since taking over less than a year ago Bettine has already knocked out over 20 events ranging from proposals to bridal showers and even birthdays! Nothing is off limits, when the weather shines you can get outside and have the perfect picnic! Who says you need a reason to celebrate!
We always love to know more about our vendors and gain insight into why they do what they do so we asked Bettine what her favourite part of the process was and if she had any tips?
“I love seeing the reactions of the guests when they see everything set up! All the elements for the picnic really shine when it all comes together at the end and that’s when I love seeing their faces and happy reactions. My top tip would be don’t be afraid to ask any questions beforehand to those you’re working with, so you can feel the most calm and relaxed!”
We’re confident the lifting and lugging items in the heat to the middle of the park is rewarding when you see the smiling faces of guests! We also learnt if Bettine didn’t buy this business she might have tried her hand at making and decorating cakes! – Given the gorgeous styling she puts together it’s only natural she would still be doing something creative!
