Gone are the days of a traditional guestbook, with the rise of social and video based platforms like Meta and Tiktok, and the shortened attention spans of the younger generations; many new styles and ways of keeping track of your wedding guests have developed.
From audio guestbooks, to paintings and the highly favoured video guestbook which has been paved and pioneered heavily in Australia’s South Eastern States by Tommy Casha.
With a background in commentary previously holding similar vox pop style chats outside the Newcastle Knights games Casha saw a gap in the wedding market during the cocktail hour to keep guests entertained and capture the best of the guests and their emotions toward the couple and so “Wedding Chats” was born. But like every business owner it didn’t come easily, Tommy began by first offering his services in 2021 for free to a few weddings in order to bank some content and build a portfolio before securing his first official booking in March of 2022.
From there his background in editing and presenting definitely helped, being able to get the best out of the guests and editing the snippets into reels that just took off on socials having now completed over 150 weddings to date, and this doesn’t even include the fact that Tommy also chats at other events; corporate, birthdays, engagements, you name it!
With lots of different and new styles of businesses popping up in the wedding industry constantly Tommy shares with us the fact that “there’s really no other business in my field which I guess is a pro and a con. Being able to get guests to trust me and open up, sharing their stories is something quite different to any other guestbook. Being able to chat to the couple’s nearest and dearest is my favourite thing about the job. I truly believe as people we don’t tell friends and family how much we love each other. Being able to form connections with wedding guests and having them share why the couple means so much to them is so heart-warming.”
And you can tell Tommy has a truly unique way of getting the best out of people through the content that is posted on his socials from each wedding, his laid back Aussie persona makes him super approachable and easy to just have a relaxed chat to, but god forbid you walk in front of his camera whilst he’s chatting or you will get a stern face and an “excuse me” from the pink loving, hat wearing New South Welshman!
Sticking with the theme of “be you” that he exudes throughout all his videos Tommy’s number one tip for couples on their wedding day is just to “do it your way. If you hate dancing then don’t have a first dance. If you don’t like cake, you don’t have to have a cake. Your wedding day should be a reflection of your relationship and the things you love most. There are no rules around weddings just make sure you have fun!”
Tommy and Wedding Chats continues to soar with recent appearances on the Channel 7 Morning Show, Chatting for large brand events like TikTok and FAYT the Label, and in late 2024 Tommy also released his first product; a range of cards for couples planning to help them chat and stay connected during the process.
